   A VIOLENT END TO WHAT WAS A BEAUTIFUL DAY While the details of who and why have yet to be divulged, the fact that today’s tragedy unfolded at an end of Ramadan (Eid ul-Fitr) celebration speaks volumes. Many of our communities (Muslim and non-Muslim, of all racial and religious tribes) have generational legacies of traumatic disfunction. The “City of Brotherly Love” has ironically been viewed by many Muslims around the U.S. (right or wrong) as a central part of the epicenter of that often violent dysfunction. The talk on the Muslim Street is that extreme manifestations of Salafi-based gangsterism, in the name of Islam, has added to this dark, toxic, pseudo-spiritual mix. (Surely ALLAH knows best.) Irrespective of what narrative is applicable here, the fact of the matter is that Philadelphia is viewed as a major U.S. city where Muslims have a large public and private presence; while simultaneously Philadelphia is a major U.S. city with a large public and private problem! Committed Muslims of ALL STRIPES in Philadelphia, Atlanta, Chicago, LA, New York, Washington, etc., must honestly ask ourselves what’s wrong with this picture?
